6 November: During the night, wind and rain. In the morning, cloudy sky, windy and cool, but without rain. At seven thirty, temperature 8°R [50°F, 10°C]. Today we obtained a two-year-old doe (Cervus virginianus), which had been shot here in the vicinity of the Wabash River, as well as the common wild duck (Anas boschas). The doe cost a dollar and twelve cents (about two florins, forty-five crowns).

During the evening afternoon we visited Messrs. Say and Lesueur. In the evening they called on us, and by the fireplace we examined several volumes of Mr. Lesueur’s sketches. At night it was very cool.
