7 November: In the morning, overcast sky, some wind, cool. At seven thirty, temperature of 2 1/2°R [37.6°F, 3.1°C]. During the afternoon I visited Mr. Say, who had given me his new treatise on shells as a gift. Mr. Bodmer went for a walk with Lesueur. They saw two deer on the hills close to town and shot at them with small shot. They brought home a gray squirrel. At five o’clock, temperature of 3°R [38.8°F, 3.8°C]. Visit in the evening from Mr. Lesueur, who had many sketches.
